IPEMB Annual Scientific Meeting From Spectrum November 1996 |
Annual Scientific Meeting of the Institution of Physicists and Engineers in Medicine and Biology (IPEMB)This meeting took place in September in Leeds. This is a scientific meeting on a large scale with two sessions running in parallel through its three-day duration. Once again the range of subjects covered was vast. Once again, this was a very well-attended meeting. Sessions covered at the meeting were Rehabilitation Engineering, Physiological Measurement, New Therapeutic Techniques, Quality Assurance and Risk Management, Medical Imaging, Virtual Reality and Expert Systems, Bones and Joints, Cardiovascular, Health Informatics and Health Technology Assessment. There were many very interesting presentations in all these sessions. The Equipment Management Special Interest Group of the IPEMB organised an Electromagnetic Compatibility Workshop which took place on the second day of the Conference. Some new scientific work was presented and overall difficulties with Electromagnetic Compatibility were discussed, but it is clear that there is still some way to go to achieve a full understanding of Electromagnetic Compatibility. As it happens, this meeting was attended by most of the Publications Committee of the BEAI who were presenting work at the conference. Overall, we were greatly encouraged by the level of interest in our presentations and indeed we would hope in the future to attract some of the participants at this meeting to forthcoming BEAI meetings. |
